Thank You!
Let me begin with a sincere thank you to the volunteers who played a critical role in Representative Boland's campaign for reelection! There's no doubt that your help was critical in allowing us the opportunity to make a difference in lives of regular people for another two years.
Major thanks are also due to the staff who worked here in the 71st for Mike Boland's reelection, your efforts on Boland's behalf are also greatly appreciated. Boland ended up being the #1 target in the state, and each one of you played an important role in one of the most contested House races in Illinois, and you won!
And finally, a large thank you to all of the voters. Your support for Mike Boland and our efforts from his office are very gratifying. I look forward to continuing me reports on the activities of the 71st district, and the many and varied public servants working to make life a little better in our neck of the woods.

I've been Googling my butt off trying to find some info on other state legislative races and thought you might have some better info. I heard the Senate Dems picked up 6 seats. I finally found some results but they didn't give away much as to the geography of those districts. My impression was that they were primarily in suburban Chicago districts. Does that sound right?
I haven't seen anything about similar gains in the House. Was this a matter of the House Dems not targeting as many districts, or were they just picking up Senate seats where the House seats had already switched Dem? What will the make-up of the new House and Senate be? Are we talking "veto-proof" majorities....not that it matters as much with a Dem governor, lol? It also appeared that Granberg had an even tougher race. You said your boss ended up being he #1 target...was the Granberg race just a sleeper no one saw coming?

I've been "vacationing" for a few days, (I was actually helping out my mom) trying to decompress a bit after the election, so I am sorry I didn't answer quicker, and I will have to admit that I don't know the precise answers for all your questions.
I think the primary difference between the IL House and IL Senate is that in the House they concentrated on protecting the existing seats and not on picking up new ones.
I actually think the Granberg seat ended up with a bit more money spent this cycle, so by one definition it was bigger than Boland's race. I think the money was spent earlier in Granberg's race, while the money came piling into Boland's race closer to the end. So for the last month of the election, Boland's was considered the "hot" race.
That's about all I can say for sure, I've deliberately avoided all things political for the last few days, working to clear my head and move forward fresh.

To the best of my knowledge nothing was asked or promised. I didn't set up that event, but if I remember correctly it was actually instigated by Don Jacobs. Donald Jacobs was outraged at Haring's misuse of quotes, and he contacted Boland's campaign and offered to speak out.
In the end, I believe that the bottom line was that keeping the seat out of the hands of the republicans was more important than any past rivalries or disputes.
